World Vision Launches National Campaign to Rally American Support in the Fight Against Global AIDS
Campaign to help turn the tide against AIDS to stop in Washington D.C.

What: World Vision is launching THE HOPE INITIATIVE, an unprecedented nationwide campaign to educate and mobilize millions of individuals from both the Christian community and the general public around the HIV/AIDS crisis. World Vision, based in Federal Way, Washington, is asking Americans to join together to care for AIDS orphans, widows and other vulnerable children affected by AIDS. With events taking place in 15 cities, World Vision will:
  • Educate Americans about the plight of tens of millions of individuals affected by AIDS around the world, especially orphans and vulnerable children;
  • Encourage Americans to contact their member of Congress to support funding for President Bush’s $15 billion AIDS initiative;
  • Encourage the public and church congregations to join with World Vision by supporting their work combating AIDS -- work that has created results and hope for hundreds of communities in places most impacted by the AIDS pandemic in the developing world.
Who:
Richard Stearns, president of World Vision
Stearns joined World Vision in 1998 after serving as a senior executive and later president of Lenox for more than 10 years. Each year Stearns speaks to audiences in the U.S. and around the world about the importance of caring for the world’s poorest families and children.
