Acting on AIDS just completed its first ever combined student leadership summit and lobby day, called the Summit on the Hill, in Washington, D.C., May 19-21.
Organized and executed in coalition with Micah Challenge and the Council for Christian College and Universities (CCCU), the summit featured three plenary sessions led by Steve Haas and Aaron Graham, National Field Organizer of Sojourners, and several workshops led by artist Scott Erickson, several World Vision staff, and the director of Boston Faith and Justice Network.
The almost 90 student participants, from campuses around the country, engaged in almost 40 appointments with congressional members and their staff to ask for the quick passage of the Global AIDS Bill through the Senate, including adequate appropriations for malaria and tuberculosis. The day of lobbying culminated with a concert by Derek Webb, Christian recording artist.
Acting on AIDS would like to thank the 4-H Youth Conference Center, Sojourers, the Micah Challenge, and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities for their support in this endeavor. For more information, e-mail Acting on AIDS at actingonaids@worldvision.org.
