Organization looking to meet the greatest needs of vulnerable and affected families

Federal Way, Washington, December, 2007 — Washington-based humanitarian agency World Vision is sending supplies from their local Storehouse today to meet the needs of those affected by recent flooding in Southwest Washington.

The record-setting flooding has claimed lives and devastated local housing, with much of the damage still unknown. Working with partners in the affected area, World Vision is meeting requests for assistance based on identified needs of the affected population.

Partnering with The Salvation Army, World Vision is providing:
  • Medications
  • Clothing for men, women and children
  • Blankets for adults and babies
  • Personal and dental hygiene products, including shampoo, body wash and toothpaste
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Backpacks to carry supplies
“When a disaster strikes, the immediate needs are not always clear,” said John Pettit, World Vision’s director of domestic emergency relief. “Our partners on the ground are now able to tell us specifically what it is that they require, which ensures that the products we send are truly needed.”

The Storehouse helps meet basic needs for children and families by offering donated, high-quality goods to revitalize neighborhoods and sustain families. Local churches, schools, and community groups distribute the items to families in need. 1.6 million people received warm clothing, building supplies, or school supplies through The Storehouse in 2006.
