New York, May 10, 2011—JPMorgan Chase today announced that it is teaming up with New York Giants’ Justin Tuck to donate $275,000 to assist Alabama residents affected by the recent devastating tornadoes. The firm will give $150,000 to World Vision, a longtime disaster-response partner that will focus on families and schools, and $100,000 to The West Chamber Alabama Foundation in support of its Tuscaloosa Disaster Relief Fund, which is assisting with basic human services and recovery efforts in the Tuscaloosa area. Tuck, who grew up in Central Alabama, is donating $25,000 to World Vision through his organization, Tuck’s R.U.S.H. for Literacy.

In addition, Chase has implemented several temporary initiatives to help its customers in the areas most affected. Customers may be eligible for a deferral of payments without late fees or negative credit reporting and credit card line flexibility. The firm also has halted all collection and repossession efforts in 37 zip codes across Alabama, as well as in two zip codes in Georgia and Mississippi. Chase also is working closely with insurance companies to help get customers’ homes repaired.

More than 5,000 residences and businesses in Tuscaloosa County have been destroyed or seriously damaged and 40 residents were killed and 12 are still missing.

“Our heart goes out to the people throughout the region, particularly those in Alabama, which was the most severely impacted,” said Mel Martinez, Chairman of the JPMorgan Chase Foundation and former U.S. Senator representing Florida. “This donation and the additional steps we are taking to ease our customers’ financial concerns will help Tuscaloosa County and other communities as they begin the healing and rebuilding process.”

“I am so grateful that the people of Alabama have always supported me and I know they have the strength to overcome this tragedy,” Tuck said. “Education and literacy have always been a passion of mine, so I am partnering with JPMorgan Chase and World Vision to ensure local students get the support they need during this recovery period.” In 2008, Tuck founded Tuck’s R.U.S.H. for Literacy to encourage children from New York City and Central Alabama to READ, UNDERSTAND, SUCCEED and HOPE.

“World Vision is deeply grateful for JPMorgan Chase’s generous partnership with us to reach the most vulnerable survivors of this disaster,” said Chris Glynn, the humanitarian agency’s senior vice president of corporate development and U.S. programs. “JPMorgan Chase has assisted in many World Vision responses where children have urgent needs, whether for school supplies, for relief in U.S. disasters, or assistance in quake ravaged Haiti and Japan.”

The JPMorgan Chase Foundation has donated more than $500 million to non-profit organizations over the last five years, with a particular focus on communities around the world devastated by catastrophic events.
