JPMorgan Chase and NY Giants' Justin Tuck Donate $275,000 to Help Alabama Residents Impacted by Devastating Tornadoes

New York, May 10, 2011—JPMorgan Chase today announced that it is teaming up with New York Giants’ Justin Tuck to donate $275,000 to assist Alabama residents affected by the recent devastating tornadoes. The firm will give $150,000 to World Vision, a longtime disaster-response partner that will focus on families and schools, and $100,000 to The West Chamber Alabama Foundation in support of its Tuscaloosa Disaster Relief Fund, which is assisting with basic human services and recovery efforts in the Tuscaloosa area. Tuck, who grew up in Central Alabama, is donating $25,000 to World Vision through his organization, Tuck’s R.U.S.H. for Literacy.

In addition, Chase has implemented several temporary initiatives to help its customers in the areas most affected. Customers may be eligible for a deferral of payments without late fees or negative credit reporting and credit card line flexibility. The firm also has halted all collection and repossession efforts in 37 zip codes across Alabama, as well as in two zip codes in Georgia and Mississippi. Chase also is working closely with insurance companies to help get customers’ homes repaired.

More than 5,000 residences and businesses in Tuscaloosa County have been destroyed or seriously damaged and 40 residents were killed and 12 are still missing.

“Our heart goes out to the people throughout the region, particularly those in Alabama, which was the most severely impacted,” said Mel Martinez, Chairman of the JPMorgan Chase Foundation and former U.S. Senator representing Florida. “This donation and the additional steps we are taking to ease our customers’ financial concerns will help Tuscaloosa County and other communities as they begin the healing and rebuilding process.”
