Tuscaloosa, AL (July 29, 2011) — As part of the long-term rebuilding efforts in tornado-ravaged Alabama,
World Vision will bring together local school and community leaders and corporate partners to host the Holt Day of Caring at Holt High School on Saturday.
A long-time World Vision partner,
JPMorgan Chase has donated $150,000 to World Vision for tornado response and rebuilding efforts focusing on families and schools in the Tuscaloosa area since April. As a follow up to their initial commitment, JPMorgan Chase is contributing to the funding of a new Teacher Resource Center to be housed at Holt Elementary School. The Teacher Resource Center will allow Holt area teachers to replenish much-needed basic classroom supplies throughout the year.
More than 3,000 are expected to attend Saturday’s event, where 1,700 stuffed backpacks will be distributed to children in the Holt School District as they prepare to return to school this fall. School officials, community leaders and over 50 local volunteers join World Vision and JPMorgan Chase for a day of caring for this community still so much in need.
“JPMorgan Chase has been a committed, long-term partner in World Vision’s humanitarian responses, both domestic and international,” said Chris Glynn, World Vision’s senior vice president of corporate development and U.S. programs. “We are deeply grateful for their response to the Southern tornado relief efforts, beginning with emergency response and now with the longer-term community rebuilding efforts.”
“JPMorgan Chase is committed to the relief efforts in communities impacted by the tornado disaster in Alabama,” said JPMorgan Chase Foundation President Kim Davis. “We are proud to continue working alongside World Vision to help these communities rebuild and heal.”
In April, Justin Tuck’s RUSH for Literacy and JPMorgan Chase donated funds to assist with immediate disaster response needs in the Tuscaloosa area, and committed to provide additional follow up support for the community with back-to-school supplies. Students will receive school supplies, books, age-appropriate games and toys, shoes and basic hygiene kits.

Domestically, World Vision is committed to supporting children, teachers, and communities in the U.S. through core programs intended to empower children and youth, and equip communities through capacity building and education. The JPMorgan Chase Foundation has donated more than $500 million to non-profit organizations over the last five years, with a particular focus on communities around the world devastated by catastrophic events.
