Dallas, Texas (5 April, 2012) —Today, dozens of Dallas volunteers will be assembling family food kits at World Vision's Domestic Disaster Headquarters in Grand Prairie to help with the Christian humanitarian organization's tornado response. More than 50 corporate volunteers from a local Dallas software company will be assembling 1,500 food kits for those affected by the tornadoes and other families in need in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. World Vision's Family Food Kit contains 3 to 4 meal packets (breakfast, lunch, dinner) or enough food to feed a family of five for one day by providing sustenance such as oatmeal, lentil soup and pasta.. Each recipe is easy to cook up and requires only water and simmering to cook.

With more than a dozen tornadoes ripping through Dallas and Tarrant counties the need for immediate assistance is great. "Most families left within minutes of the tornadoes striking and had little or no time to gather personal belongings let alone food," explains Phyllis Freeman World Vision's Domestic Disaster Director. "For these displaced survivors one of the most immediate needs is non-perishable food."

World Vision's emergency disaster response team deployed immediately after the tornadoes hit. The humanitarian agency is responding rapidly to this disaster with relief supplies including food kits, hygiene kits, and water. World Vision also plans to address long-term recovery needs of affected families, with a specific focus on the needs of children.

The public can help by visiting www.worldvision.org, calling (888) 56-CHILD (24453), or by texting "GIVEUSA” to 777444 to make a $10 donation to World Vision's disaster response.
