World Vision has been offering guided Vision Trips to select donors and partner churches for several years. For a busy senior pastor this is an unparalleled opportunity to personally connect with children, communities and churches impacted by the AIDS pandemic.
I'm not a senior pastor. Can I still attend?
Given the critical nature of the AIDS pandemic, it is essential that the church "vision caster" (typically the senior pastor) be one of the two leaders per church going on the Vision Trip. If you are an associate/youth pastor or a lay leader, we encourage you to invite your senior pastor and travel together to Africa.
Who are my trip guides?Experienced World Vision staff lead project visits. Their goal is to ensure that you have the best travel experience possible.
Where will I be staying?Accommodations will consist of a variety of safe, clean, locally run hotels and guest houses.
How will I get to Africa and back? | |
You are responsible for booking and purchasing your own airfare between the U.S. or other location of departure and Africa. World Vision Travel Services (1.888.997.9997) is available to assist you in booking your flight. You are also free to use your own agent.
How do I find out more about passports, visas and immunizations? After you apply for the trip, World Vision will contact you regarding next steps, including addressing these topics as well as other trip-related information such as weather, currency exchange, and what to pack.
What about transportation in Africa?
At the conclusion of the orientation, the group will divide into smaller teams to visit World Vision project areas in selected countries. You will be transported to/from project areas by plane, bus, and/or van, depending on the country you are visiting. All in-country transportation while on the Pastors Vision Trip is included in the trip price.
Will there be time for sightseeing?Although it won’t be a major focus, we will incorporate some time for sightseeing and shopping. For those interested in seeing more of the tourist sights than are offered on this trip, we recommend remaining in the country for a few additional days at the conclusion of the trip. The East Africa trip generally includes a debrief in the Masai Mara with multiple game drives. The Southern Africa trip includes a visit to the Apartheid Museum and a debrief in a country setting with a nearby game reserve.
Will my church be connected with a single congregation in Africa?
Each World Vision project is typically done in partnership with a wide range of local pastors, churches, leaders, and organizations in the project community. Our goal is to bring together all churches in the community to help foster Christian unity. By encouraging relationships between U.S. churches and a diverse group of churches within the project — as opposed to one-to-one partnerships between individual churches — World Vision field staff can encourage healthy relationships that benefit children, communities, and local churches, and avoid causing unintended jealousies that can divide communities.
