One Caregiver's Story :: Mirriam
| In Zambia, caregiver Mirriam Mushinge sits with Loveness Chama, a mother of three who is seriously ill as a result of AIDS. Loveness and her children are among the 18 families for whom Mirriam provides home-based care. A familiar question hangs in the air. “I am sick almost every day. How am I going to take care of the children?”asks Loveness. They discuss pain medicine for a bit,and then Mirriam encourages Loveness with a Bible passage and prayer. “Nothing is impossible with God,” Mirriam reminds Loveness. “God is always working on behalf of orphans and widows.” | | |
| Mirriam herself is HIV-positive, and at home she cares for her daughter as well as three orphaned nieces and nephews. All but one of her six brothers and sisters have died as a result of AIDS. Yet Mirriam continually works to raise awareness about AIDS in her community,and to help provide care for those affected by the disease.
