Now, expand your palate. Global Dinners is your gateway to experiencing the world through a variety of foods and cultures and sharing that world with others. It's fun. It's educational. And it helps save children's lives!

What it is

By hosting a Global Dinners event, you can prepare and share traditional foods from countries around the world while introducing friends and family to the joys of child sponsorship. Click here for details

Why it matters

Nearly 30,000 children around the world die every day, most from preventable causes. In the pages of Scripture we see that children like these are dear to God’s heart. By educating others about the challenges faced by children around the globe, and encouraging them to sponsor a child, you are showing God's love to children in need — and helping to save lives!

Hosting your Global Dinner

Follow these steps to host a successful dinner party—and open a new world to your friends and family.

Before your Global Dinner

1. Choose a country and menu to feature at your party. You could choose a country you’ve visited or the country where your sponsored child lives.
2. Set a date for your dinner.
3. Invite friends, family members, and anyone else you think will enjoy learning about a new culture and child sponsorship. Encourage them to RSVP so you can plan accordingly.
4. Order the sponsorship video and child picture folders for your dinner event.
5. Download the Country Recipe Sheet for your country. (Click here to link to the Regions)
6. Plan your dinner:
  • Using the Country Recipe Sheet, note the dishes you want to prepare and the ingredients you’ll need.
  • Recipes are typically based on approximately 8 servings, so adjust as needed.
  • Decide if you will offer courses or a buffet.

During your Global Dinner

Host your dinner party in the way that’s most comfortable for you. Be creative! Here are some suggested elements to include in your event:

Present the country you'll be featuring and explain why you chose that country.

Share your experience as a child sponsor. You may wish to pass around photos and letters from your sponsored child.

Discuss your featured country. Using your Country Information Sheet, read the story provided and explain the traditional dishes you prepared. Compare these dishes to the dishes you and your guests typically eat.

Show one of the World Vision videos. Lead a discussion afterward, inviting comments and thoughts from your guests.

Using the picture folders, introduce your guests to child sponsorship, highlighting the benefits that it offers children and how it helps save lives. Remind your guests that their support will benefit a child, family, and community by providing access to things like:

  • Clean water
  • Improved nutrition
  • Educational opportunities
  • Spiritual nurture
  • And more!
Invite your friends and family to join you by sponsoring a child. Those interested in becoming a child sponsor should complete the information on the reply envelope (located in the picture folder they choose). Be sure they also include their first payment.

Collect the completed envelopes from the new child sponsors. Each new sponsor may keep the picture folder of their sponsored child. Inform them that they will receive a Welcome Kit with more information from World Vision.

Pray together for children and families affected by poverty and the decision that your guests may make to sponsor a child.
