Hope Prayer Chain: January 2008

Pray ...

  • That stigmas, discrimination, and negative social attitudes in Asia against HIV and AIDS would decrease and not hinder efforts to fight the pandemic.
  • For the estimated 700,000 people in China living with HIV or AIDS. In 2007, about 50,000 new HIV cases were reported, the majority of which occurred among injection drug users and commercial sex workers (UNAIDS).
  • For the hundreds of thousands of young women and girls in the Asia-Pacific region trafficked for commercial sex work, placing them at high risk of HIV infection.
  • For lives touched by a global vigil held in late November, in honor of World AIDS Day on Dec. 1, 2007. The vigil began in Toronto and continued westward for 24 hours through more than 17 cities. A total of 6,000 names of children were read, symbolizing the number of children who had lost a parent to AIDS that day.
