Sponsor a Child

Search for a Child

Knit for Kids began in 1996 though Guideposts magazine as a way to send hand-knit or crocheted sweaters to children in need.

Thanks to people like you, over half a million children have received something new for the first time in their lives. As children grow out of their sweaters, they have become cherished hand-me-downs to other children.

In order to help even more children, Guideposts magazine turned the
Knit for Kids program over to long-time partner World Vision
in 2009.

Our global distribution center in Pennsylvania — where you send the sweaters — serves as a hub for sending your precious gifts to children as far away as Armenia, Nicaragua, Swaziland and Tanzania, and as close to home as Appalachia, New Orleans and the Bronx.

Use one of these patterns for making a children's sweater. [Note: Our preference is that you use one of our patterns, but you may use another pullover sweater pattern if you prefer].

Many of you have said that every stitch represents a prayer for the child who will wear the sweater. And you have also told us that your own lives have been changed as result of the program. Retirees, members of church groups, gatherings of friends,
prisoners, men, and women — all have been energized and uplifted through the
knowledge that they are doing something to bring warmth and
comfort to children in need.
