“Much will be required from everyone to whom much has been given,” says Building 429’s Jason Roy, quoting from Luke 12:48. It’s a statement that underscores the singer’s strongest beliefs. “As an artist, you are blessed with a platform – people who come to listen to your music want to know who you are and what you stand for. You can build an empire for yourself, or realize that you’ve been given an opportunity to motivate people to build something even bigger.” Jason founded Building 429 when he was in college, but it wasn’t until 2003 that the band signed to Word Music and released their debut, full-length album, "Space in Between Us". The album featured three radio hits, including "Above It All," "The Space In Between Us" and "No One Else Knows." Building 429 received four Dove award nominations and won New Artist of the Year from the Gospel Music Association in 2005. Rise and Iris to Iris were released during busy touring schedules, and the band is excited about their latest studio album, a self-titled LP, which hits stores this October. “When we signed our first record deal, we knew we wanted to partner with World Vision,” says Jason. “It was an automatic connection because their work is about tending to children and their communities, helping them to be self-sufficient, and practicing the unconditional love that Christ shows us.” Traveling to Nicaragua was a turning point in the band’s partnership with World Vision. “I’d never been to a third world country before, and I thought I knew what being poor was like,” says Jason. “I had no clue what poverty actually feels like until I visited Nicaragua. What I learned was that in such an extremely different reality to what I’m used to, hope is everywhere. World Vision bring overwhelming hope and real change to God’s beloved.” “Before my trip, I was insecure about asking our audiences to get involved by sponsoring children through World Vision. I wanted to get the message out, but I wasn’t connecting. Going to Nicaragua, helped me articulate what I really felt. I went on my knees and knew I was changed, and I guess the sincerity of my message changed too, because we went from sponsoring fewer than 300 children in one year, to sponsoring over one thousand children in one week.” The band continued to build on that number and are now one of World Vision’s most committed partner artists. “Over five thousand children are sponsored by our fans across the world. Five thousand isn’t just a number – it’s life-sustaining hope for every single child, and their communities. Beating poverty and world-hunger is possible, and World Vision leads in its mission to help, educate, and love all of God’s people.” | |||
