Gulf Coast Hurricane Relief:
Within 48 hours, World Vision responded to those impacted by Hurricane Katrina by providing emergency supplies out of its Dallas Storehouse for use by partner agencies helping affected families, and sending shipments of needed supplies that have been donated by generous corporations. Multiple truckloads of relief items, personal care supplies, and clothing continue to be sent from across the United States to assist local agencies helping Katrina survivors. Emergency supplies include items such as water containers, clothing, cups, toilet paper, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes and toys and games for children.

World Vision deployed an assessment team, comprised of international disaster relief specialists, in the region to determine needs and identify local partners shortly after Hurricane Katrina. The work of our assessment teams ensures our ongoing response is relevant and appropriate to the needs of the evacuees. We fully plan to expand our relief efforts to serve those affected by the hurricanes by providing needed supplies donated by socially responsible corporations.

An easy way to help
Gifts-in-Kind (GIK) are a company's first-quality, excess inventory donated to assist those in need. World Vision places GIK in the hands of millions of people in need each year. The benefits to corporate donors are both immediate and long-term; a tax deduction, additional warehouse space, and positive public relations. The next time you look at your inventory, consider how your company can help save lives.

Benefits to your company

  • Corporate Tax Deduction. Section 170(e)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code allows qualifying companies a deduction of up to twice the cost of donated inventory.
  • Additional Warehouse Space. The elimination of slow-moving inventory increases warehouse capacity and decreases administrative expenses.
  • Positive Public Relations. World Vision's experienced marketing staff is ready to help your organization maximize on public-relations opportunities to highlight your donation.
  • Philanthropic Involvement. Your partnership with World Vision provides a fitting channel for investing in the people and communities that contribute to your success.
