| Nearly 10 percent of the population in the United States lives below the poverty line, according to Census Bureau estimates. That's why World Vision works in 8 major urban and rural areas in the U.S., giving hope to those in need and resources to those who are leading the way in the fight against poverty here at home. We partner with local pastors, youth workers, teachers, business owners, students, and parents as they transform their neighborhoods to fight poverty in America. Partnership and support is provided through three main programs. Distribution Centers: Provide school supplies, clothes, toys, household goods and building supplies to strengthen families, schools and neighborhoods. Humanitarian Emergency Assistance: Helps families who are struggling in the wake of disasters in the United States through the American Families Assistance Fund. Education and Youth Development: Helps provide tutoring, life skills training, and mentoring for high-risk youth, offering them a chance at a brighter future. Additionally, here's how you can get involved in our rural ministry programs. Appalachia Service Trips: Come work along side residents in one of the nation's poorest areas. Church groups and youth groups help upgrade homes, improve communities, and build lasting relationships in the process. Rural Ministry: Bring your group or family on a mission trip to a site in rural America and walk alongside those who are struggling against the negative effects of poverty and severe need. Your group will serve alongside local youth and adults, gaining new insights, breaking down barriers, and building relationships that have mutual, lasting impact on all those involved. |
