WHO IS WORLD VISION?

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. We serve in nearly 100 countries around the world. World Vision has been working in the Horn of Africa for decades, including during the massive famine there in the mid-1980s. In addition to responding to immediate needs, World Vision remains in communities for long-term development of essentials like clean water, sustainable agriculture, basic healthcare, educational opportunities, and microloans to build healthy communities.

URGENT:

Severe conditions — caused by the worst drought in 60 years — are beginning to improve in the Horn of Africa. However, the United Nations has warned that these gains are "fragile" and that famine conditions could return if the traditional August rains are less than expected.

World Vision remains committed to the Horn of Africa, providing day-to-day support for the most vulnerable and implementing long-term health and development programs to help communities endure future droughts.

Please help World Vision continue providing lifesaving assistance in the Horn of Africa.

In July 2011, six regions in Somalia were designated as famine zones. Heavy rains that began last fall led to one of the best harvests in more than 17 years, and the UN has now declared an end to the famine in Somalia. While the change in designation is promising, the level of need in the region remains great. As François Batalingaya, World Vision's emergency affairs director explains, "The international community must continue to provide aid over the longer term to help children and their families in areas where access to food and medical care remains uncertain."

World Vision has been fighting hunger in the Horn of Africa for many years, and will continue to respond for the long-haul. Thanks to government grants, your gift today will multiply up to 5 times in impact to help provide emergency food, clean water, agricultural support, healthcare, and other vital assistance to children and families in need.

Please pray for the millions who remain at risk in the Horn of Africa. And please help us continue supporting them today.
