As a sponsor, you will help provide a child with access to life-changing basics like nutritious food, clean water, healthcare, and education.

Child sponsorship also helps families and communities lift themselves out of poverty by providing job training, business coaching, small loans, along with training to help poverty-affected farmers learn new ways to irrigate and grow crops.

You'll be given the opportunity to personally connect with your sponsored child — building a relationship that could change both your lives. "I know my sponsor," says Solange, an 11-year-old sponsored girl from Rwanda. "She writes me letters. I love her very much. She sponsors me because she loves me…it's good to be sponsored."

We are committed to using all contributions to our work wisely and effectively. By leveraging or combining funds from child sponsors and other contributors, with government grants and goods donated by corporations, we ensure that all gifts entrusted to us have maximum impact. In 2010, 85 percent of World Vision's total operating expenses were used for programs that benefit children, families, and communities in need.

Every child sponsor receives:

• A welcome kit with a photo and information about your sponsored child, plus an introductory DVD
• The opportunity to write and receive letters and even email your child
• Annual progress reports
• Updated photos of your child
