Home > Indonesia Earthquake: Latest News Indonesia: More than 200,000 Desperately Need Assistance Packages for 1,500 families have already arrived in Yogyakarta, one of the hardest-hit heavily populated cities, located 275 miles east/southeast of Jakarta. Relief packages for 5,500 more families will arrive in the next few days. The relief packages include pans, dishes, glasses, spoons, buckets, stoves, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, flashlights and kerosene lamps. Nearly 200,000 are believed to be displaced and about 5,400 are now thought to have perished as a result of Saturday's 6.3 magnitude shaker. At least 8,000 were seriously injured. Initial World Vision relief aid distributions began on Sunday. Hundreds of tarpaulins, blankets, sarongs, stretchers/cots, intravenous solution and gloves were distributed. Coordinating Relief and ReconstructionToday, World Vision also conducted coordination meetings with the government of Indonesia and made preparations in communities where aid distribution will be carried out in the coming days. Current Conditions Hamper Relief EffortHeavy rain and damaged roads have hindered efforts to help survivors.
