World Vision has been at the forefront of AIDS prevention, care and advocacy for more than a dozen years. In 1990, the Christian humanitarian organization launched its first AIDS-related program, helping orphans in Rakai, Uganda – the epidemic’s ground zero. Other early programs involved helping Romanian children infected with the AIDS virus and providing support for Thai women and girls trying to escape prostitution.
