The Storehouse of World Vision provides building materials to strengthen families, schools, and neighborhoods. It acts as a distribution center of donated high-quality products that help to rebuild under-resourced communities. How does The Storehouse work? Building material manufacturers, distributors, and retailers donate new, excess products to The Storehouse of World Vision. The Storehouse then makes these products available for a small handling fee to local groups and individuals that rehabilitate or create community facilities and affordable housing for families. Where is The Storehouse? The Storehouse is housed in a 40,000 square foot warehouse on the west side of Chicago. There are also World Vision storehouses that distribute building materials in Appalachia, Los Angeles, and New York. What types of building materials does The Storehouse distribute? The Storehouse of World Vision distributes all kinds of new, high quality building materials and supplies: paint, doors, windows, trim, flooring, plumbing supplies, and accessories. Who contributes to The Storehouse of World Vision? Since 1995, The Storehouse has provided nearly $17 million worth of construction supplies and building materials to communities in need, thanks to hundreds of corporate partners like Kohler, Masco Corporation, The Great Indoors, Moen, Grohe, Sears, Elkay Manufacturing, Delta, Simonton, Thermal Tin Doors, Emil America, Kwal Paints, Custom Building Products, Purdy Corporation, Jacuzzi Brands, Home Depot, Armstrong Cabinets, and DeSitters Carpet. How do companies who donate to The Storehouse benefit? Hundreds of companies have learned that they can save costs and make a difference for people in need by sharing their excess inventory with The Storehouse of World Vision. The Storehouse of World Vision in Chicago opened in 1995 in an 18,000 sq. foot warehouse. In January of 2000, The Storehouse moved to a 40,000 sq. foot warehouse donated by the Chicago Public School System for The Storehouse's commitment to serving the schools. The Storehouse of World Vision serves over 1,700 Chicago community development groups and churches, and over 6,500 individual residents. Since 1995, The Storehouse in Chicago has provided nearly $17 million worth of construction supplies and building materials from corporate and local donors. And so far this year, The Storehouse has received almost $5 million in donations.
