Chicago youth improve their school

Students at Dvorak School on the west side of Chicago wanted to do something that would improve their building and make it more fun for students. Thanks to the paint they received from The Storehouse, they were able to do exactly that.

During an after-school art program led by AmeriCorps volunteers, students from the school designed a mural for an outside wall of their school building. Mikae’la, a 6th grader in the art club said, “I wanted to do things that gave kids something more meaningful to look at.”

The art club, part of a program called Young Heroes, aims to develop middle school youth into active civic leaders through community service. By designing and painting their mural, students saw how their commitment and hard work could impact their school and their community. And paint from The Storehouse of World Vision helped make that possible.

Tori, one of the program leaders, said, “This is their project. They designed it. They’re making an impact on their own neighborhood.”

Part of the mission of The Storehouse of World Vision is to rehabilitate community facilities. The Dvorak School mural is just one example of how The Storehouse is helping youth step up to take leadership in improving their communities.
