Opening doors by opening minds
World Vision New York’s Education Initiative works with youth workers, churches, after-school programs, Title I schools, and other community-based organizations to bring university-level training and curriculum development to school programs in the Bronx.
These efforts pave the way for children to achieve greater self-esteem, better employment opportunities, and a more stable socioeconomic situation for themselves and their families.
The Storehouse—empowering teachers, encouraging students
On average, New York City teachers spend more than $420 in personal funds on educational supplies for their students each year. One in ten of these teachers spend more than $750 each year. We come alongside these hard-working teachers and their students through our South Bronx Storehouse—a community-based resource center stocked with new items donated by generous American corporations.
Teachers from qualifying Title I schools can come to the Storehouse twice a year to select free educational supplies for their students.
