Goldman Sachs, a global investment banking, securities and investment management firm, invited its employees and clients to participate in this event as part of its annual "Take Your Child to Work Day."
After participants heard from representatives of World Vision and the advocacy groups Debt, AIDS, and Trade in Africa (DATA) and the ONE Campaign, they worked together to create 350 World Vision Caregiver Kits.
Anne Derby, World Vision's executive director of corporation and foundation relations, spoke to the group about the significant role that partnerships play as we seek solutions to end extreme poverty.
"I was energized to see the office at Goldman Sachs filled with such a diverse gathering of leadership, both this generation and the next," says Derby. "Men and women, boys and girls, who were ready to roll up their sleeves and make a difference."
The Caregiver Kits will be shipped to AIDS-affected communities in Africa, Asia or Latin America, and given to family members and local volunteers who provide compassionate physical and emotional support to people living with AIDS.
Caregiver Kits include items like:
>> Pray for people suffering from AIDS, and pray for World Vision's network of compassionate volunteers and relatives who care for the patients.
>> Speak out. Ask President Bush to urge the G8 to keep its promise to make HIV and AIDS prevention, treatment, and care accessible to all people by 2010. With increased resources, millions of lives can be saved.
>> Donate to supply a Caregiver Kit.
