Darfur: Operations Continue Despite Attacks
Ailing 11-month-old Noor Al Masharik, held by her mother, Halima Bashir, awaits treatment at the El Geneina clinic supported by World Vision in South Darfur. Halima and her baby are among tens of thousands of displaced persons residing in the Otash camp in war-torn Darfur. More than 200,000 have died since 2003 in Darfur; an additional 2.5 million have been driven into homelessness — their villages pillaged, burned, and destroyed. © 2007/ Mohamad Almahady/World Vision World Vision condemns these attacks and renews its commitment to serve the poorest of the poor in Darfur. World Vision Continuing OperationsWe will continue to serve the people and communities in this region who are in great need. Mindful of the escalation of violence during recent days, however, we suspended operations for 48 hours, between Sept. 25 and 26. World Vision in Darfur Learn More>> Read about the escalating violence in Darfur. Two Ways You Can Help>> Pray for healing for our wounded staff, and for protection, strength, and wisdom for all humanitarian aid workers in Darfur who have been the targets of escalating violence. Pray also for Sudan's millions of displaced persons who are suffering, especially for the children, who are most vulnerable to the violence that continues to plague war-torn Darfur. |
