Flooded roads, collapsed bridges, thick mud, low-hanging trees, and endless miles of arid desert sand are just some examples of the obstacles that separate World Vision relief workers from people in need. But completing the journey is essential for saving lives, so the workers rely on the one vehicle that is undaunted by the challenge: Toyota’s Land Cruiser.
Referred to by World Vision Sudan as the most durable beasts of burden, Land Cruisers reach even extremely remote communities. In fact, it has become so recognizable for delivering health and hope that children often excitedly race behind as it arrives in their village.
Across the globe these trustworthy vehicles can be found transporting generators, medical supplies and equipment, televisions and VCRs for showing educational tapes, and most important, World Vision staff delivering hope to the nearly unreachable. “Everyone is happy to see our Land Cruiser lumbering through the narrow paths to their village—even if it means pulling the oxen off the path,” Sam Ol of World Vision Cambodia says with a grin. |
