| Our Mission Compels Us to Act |
 | The Hope Initiative is critical to World Vision’s commitment as a Christian humanitarian organization. Our mission calls us to bring hope to children, families and communities devastated by AIDS in Africa and around the world. Personally, we are deeply inspired by the compassion of Christ, as relevant now as ever:
“Look after the orphans & widows in their distress” (James 1:27)
“Whatever you did for one of the least of these…you did for me” (Matthew 25:40)
“Love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31). |

| Do Something Right Now That Will Make a Difference |
 |
Take action now by sponsoring a HopeChild or giving a one time gift that will help orphans and widows trying to rebuild their lives and support prevention practices that work.
Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper encouraging people to learn more about what AIDS is doing to children, families and communities around the world, and what we can do to turn the tide against HIV/AIDS.
One Life Revolution is a program to support orphans and widows in Zambia who are suffering as a result of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Your church/group can provide much-needed care to children and mothers left behind — things like education, medical supplies, or blankets to larger items such as water wells, homes or schools. By raising funds to purchase specific items or services, your action will show the love of Christ to those in need.
From speaking out to encourage more government assistance for suffering people to performing personal acts of compassion, there is so much we can do together to turn the tide against AIDS.

| World Vision Makes Your Compassion Count |
 | World Vision has more than 50 years of experience in helping children, and is an effective and efficient steward of your donations.
In fiscal year 2004, 87 percent of revenues went to programs that benefit children, families, and communities in need.
We work hand-in hand with local churches and community leaders to multiply the impact of your contribution by:
CARING for children and families.
SAVING the next generation by teaching life skills, including proven prevention methods such as abstinence and fidelity.
WORKING TOGETHER with local groups to advocate for more effective responses to the pandemic. |

| Why World Vision is Making a Significant Impact |
 | World Vision is highly qualified and well positioned to continue making a significant impact and saving lives.
Our experience and success in helping orphans and vulnerable children
World Vision has more than a decade of experience in working with AIDS-impacted communities to meet the special needs of orphans and vulnerable children. We have also helped achieve measurable gains in preventing the spread of AIDS, using proven methods, including abstinence-based programs for teens.
We address spiritual as well as physical needs.
Our staff strive to follow the example of Jesus Christ, acting as his hands and feet and showing his love and grace to suffering children and families.
Our partnership with local churches
World Vision’s partnership with local churches is an important advantage, enabling us to mobilize their support to reach as many community members as possible. In most communities where we work, the church has more potential than any other institution to promote HIV prevention and provide care to those suffering from or left behind by the disease.
Our grassroots, community-based approach
We work at the grassroots level, partnering with communities to provide support for their neediest children and families, and addressing the root causes of the spread of AIDS. |

| Why Christians Should Respond |
 | As followers of Christ, we are to care about the persons that he cares about. Scripture mandates caring for the orphan and the widow.
The mandate to care was an enforceable decree by God himself in establishing boundaries for his people.
There is a very real connection between our own daily life of faith and our care for "the least of these." God’s mandate to reach out to orphans and widows has an interconnectedness that ties our journey’s blessing and spiritual growth with our reaction to the journey of others.
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.James 1:27
Christ’s greatest commandment
If we wish to love like God loves, we find those who have nothing to give us in return, those who have not loved us first, or can return anything to us.
"My commandment is this, Love each other as I have loved you"John 15:12
Based on the commands and example of Jesus and other biblical authors, Christians in America have a responsibility to demonstrate the compassion of Christ by reaching out to the millions of people worldwide who are affected by HIV/AIDS. Christians should be on the front lines of this battle through prayer, action, and giving.
