Work history: Top To’s husband works as a soldier in the military. To improve the family’s income, she accepted a friend's invitation to join together with other women to apply for a group loan to increase farm productivity.

• $25 for fertilizer to grow rice
• $100 to purchase cows, which produced three calves
• $125 to purchase land and irrigation equipment for rice crops

Living standards: Top To says, "my children have benefited, as we now have better food, and it is easier to send my children to school."
Future plans: She wants to diversify her crops, and has begun to do this by growing watermelons. Meanwhile, her children have ambitions, too. Her daughter, Sok Phanny, wants to study to become a teacher.
Perspective on enterprise: Top To says her loan group leader "taught me how to improve my business," and that World Vision "gave me the opportunity to borrow money. Since my first loan, I was able to buy cows, land, and an irrigation machine." |
