UNBELIEVABLE STATSKELVIN'S STORYWHAT IS OLR?
The Greatest Humanitarian Disaster of Our Time
More than 14 million children have lost one or both parents to the AIDS pandemic. Many more are left vulnerable as family resources are stretched thin to care for these orphans. It is estimated that by 2010, the number of orphans will more than double to 25 million.
Who is caring for these orphans? Extended family members, often aging grandparents, are left to care for many orphans. This overwhelming financial burden makes the task of caring for and educating the orphans almost impossible.

Often, entire families of children are trying to make it all alone. They struggle to grow their own food, and often, instead of going to school, work long hours at backbreaking jobs for pennies.
Precious lives hang in the balance

Most of these children are not infected with HIV/AIDS; however, they are malnourished or sick, and vulnerable to exploitation. Every day is a struggle for survival. Older siblings are forced to drop out of school in order to take care of younger siblings. These innocent children, still grieving over the loss of their parents, are forced to function as adults.
