![]() | ![]() | MAKUNGWA REGION REPORT Youth Clubs formed in Mwangazi and Kwenje During their monthly meeting on 18th September 2003, the Program Management Committee (PMC) agreed that formation of Youth Clubs should begin in two zones and chose them to be Mwangazi and Kwenje. The first club in Mwangazi area was formed on 22nd September 2003 while the one in Kwenje area was formed on 23rd September 2003. Each club is currently made up of 15 members. The Kwenje group has 8 girls and 7 boys while the Mwangazi group has 7 girls and 8 boys. 12 of the 30 youths are orphans. The orphans have not been able to continue in their education for lack of financial support. The objectives of forming the youth clubs are:
The two clubs met at in Mtenguleni for a four-day training from 24th to 27th September 2003. The training covered the following topics:
It is envisaged that the youth will undertake various income-generating ventures according to the skills they will acquire. The will also disseminate information on HIV/AIDS to their fellow youth by using sporting and drama events. Uniforms and Blankets The PMC held a meeting on September 18, 2003 and chose ten orphans in each of six areas. For these children, it was decided to buy them either a blanket or uniform. Children who are orphaned now have uniforms and will be able to go to school with pride, not having to feel inferior because they can only wear some worn out clothes. They are now at par with their colleagues in this regard. Children who got blankets are now able to protect themselves from the cold during the night. They are able to cover themselves in a dignified manner. Most orphans and vulnerable children do not have anything to cover themselves with. 30 Blankets and 30 uniforms were purchased and distributed to children as follows: | |||||||||||||||||
