It began over 52 years ago when a young Christian minister took $5 from his pocket and handed it to the headmistress of a Chinese missionary school. It was partial payment to allow a ragged, hungry little girl to stay at the school where she would be fed and cared for.
That minister was Dr. Bob Pierce, the founder of World Vision. He continued his support for the little girl, "White Jade," until he lost contact with her during China's communist revolution.
It was his spontaneous, personal act of love amid the suffering of postwar Asia that gave birth to World Vision Child Sponsorship. |
