Marilene's Story

Circumstances Create Need for New Business

Marilene used to work at home and look after the children, until her husband lost his job. Looking for ways to support her family, Marilene decided to sell spices in her Brazilian community. But even though she was able to give her business a good start, she had no leftover capital to make expansions. Her new job that she’d worked hard to get off the ground was unable to generate a profit.

After qualifying for a microloan from World Vision, Marilene was able to purchase spices in greater quantities at a lower price. Her savings have enabled her to grow her small business, and, more importantly, to earn a profit. Now Marlene takes home up to $30 a week, and she’s able to provide for her family.
