Annual Report 1999

Bob Pierce was not only an evangelist and visionary but a practical man. His new organization's statement of purpose read: "World Vision is a missionary service organization, meeting emergency needs in crisis areas of the world through existing evangelical agencies."

Bob's plea was, "If you are ever going to do anything for Asia, do it now!" But he needed new and inspiring ways to get his message to the people in the pews, where he found his greatest allies. Using his journalism background, he pioneered the use of documentary films to report from crisis areas, often shooting the footage himself.

Another successful means of conveying World Vision's message was the Korean Orphan Choir, made up of 24 girls and eight boys, all of whom were sponsored children. This group delighted audiences around the world with their touching performances. They saw themselves not only as musicians, but as representatives of the world's children, especially those in developing nations.

Many faithful contributors and friends fondly remember Bob Pierce coming to their church with his films or hearing the choir as their first experience with World Vision, initiating their lifelong desire to help the world's children.
