As national director of World Vision India, Jayakumar Christian works to empower, encourage and mobilize staff members committed to serving the poor in India. In this role since January 2004, Christian oversees 110 Area Development projects in 25 States of the world’s second-most populous country.

Christian began his career as a village development worker with the Association for Comprehensive Rural Assistance in 1977. He joined World Vision India in 1978 as a senior assistant and child care officer. During the following 22 years, Christian served in various roles with World Vision in India, including as a training and evaluation manager, associate director of ministry enhancement and associate director of programs in India’s northern region.

In 2000, Christian became director of transformational development for World Vision’s international partnership office, developing strategies for improving World Vision’s long-term development programs, specifically, helping communities become self-sufficient.

In addition, Christian serves as adjunct faculty at the School of World Mission at Fuller Theological Seminary and the School of International Leadership Development at Eastern Baptist College.

Christian holds a bachelor’s degree in botany from Madras University, a master’s degree in social work from Madras University and master’s degrees in missiology and divinity from Fuller School of Theology. He also holds a Ph.D. in intercultural studies from Fuller School of World Missions.
