Steve Matthews is the communications manager for World Vision’s Global Rapid Response Team, a group of first responders sent to humanitarian emergencies around the world within the first hours or days of their onset. When he is not responding to emergencies, Matthews travels extensively to World Vision national offices to teach and help local staff members develop their communications skills in writing, photography, videography, video editing, media relations, and new technologies, such as high-speed satellite phones.

Matthews has worked for World Vision in Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, El Salvador, Iraq, Syria, Kosovo, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Peru and Sudan. With extensive experience in radio and television journalism, he gathers written, photographic and video resources for the World Vision partnership.

From 1997 through 2000, Matthews served as media and public relations director for World Vision's offices in Canada. Before joining World Vision, he worked as a radio and television journalist, radio program host and music programmer. He also provided play-by-play television commentary on for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League from 1995 to 2002. Matthews also has written numerous articles for Canadian newspapers.

Matthews holds a degree in radio broadcasting and a corporate communications and public relations certificate from Ontario's Fanshawe College.
