Copyright 2004 World Vision Inc. |  | Ethel Kapyepye is World Vision’s HIV/AIDS Coordinator in Malawi. In this role since 2001, Kapyepye provides leadership and coordination for World Vision staff who develop HIV/AIDS programs throughout Malawi.
Kapyepye began her career as a registered nurse and midwife for the Malawian ministry of health. In 1987, she joined Save the Children as a health and nutrition coordinator, integrating health care programs such as nutrition for new mothers, diagnosis of minor ailments and agriculture promotion.
From 1992 to 1994, she served as a home-based care and support specialist for the United Nations volunteer organization, developing HIV prevention and care programs, and coordinating home-based care and counseling for those infected with the virus.
Following two consultancies with the United Nations, she served as a national program officer with the United Nations Population Fund. Between 1997 and 1999, she managed the U.N. program “United Nations Volunteers Support to People Living with HIV/AIDS” in Malawi and Zambia.
In 1999, she joined Africare as a country coordinator for the organization’s Southern Africa Regional Adolescent Reproductive Health project.
Kapyepye holds a diploma in nursing, certificates in midwifery, adult education and district health care, and a master’s degree in public health from the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
