Copyright 2004 World Vision Inc. |  | The Rev. Christo Greyling is World Vision’s HIV/AIDS and church-relations advisor for Africa. In this role, Greyling works to mobilize African churches to participate in the fight against HIV/AIDS. In addition, Greyling trains facilitators for workshops designed to mobilize African church leaders on this issue.
Greyling, a hemophiliac, tested positive for HIV in 1987. He publicly disclosed his status in 1992, while serving as a minister in South Africa’s Dutch Reformed Church.
From 1993 to 2001, Greyling worked as project leader and presenter for the “I have HOPE” AIDS program for Old Mutual, a financial investment firm in South Africa. During that time, Greyling also hosted the HIV/AIDS program, “Stories of Hope” on one of South Africa’s national radio stations.
Greyling joined World Vision in 2002 as national HIV/AIDS coordinator for South Africa and Lesotho. That year, he presented at the XIV International AIDS Conference in Barcelona.
Greyling took his current position as regional HIV/AIDS and church relations advisor for Africa in 2003. That year, he also presented at several conferences on HIV/AIDS, including the Pan-African Network Symposium on HIV/AIDS in Nairobi, Kenya; the Conference on Faith-Based Responses to the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS in Washington, D.C. and the UNICEF South Asia Regional Interfaith Consultation on Children, Young People and HIV/AIDS in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Greyling holds a bachelor’s degree in theology and a post-graduate diploma in public health. He has completed work on a master’s degree in public heath
