FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 28, 2003 Relief supplies from around the globe head to Middle East World Vision sending relief items from five countries to help refugees BALTIMORE, Md. – As military relief efforts begin in southern Iraq, World Vision is shipping relief supplies from global warehouses to the Middle East where the organization assists refugees fleeing the conflict. Monday, World Vision will send another shipment from the Port of Baltimore to Aqaba, Jordan. Throughout the month of March, World Vision fundraising offices in Australia, Canada and the United States have sent shipments of clothing, shoes, collapsible water containers, pharmaceuticals and emergency health kits to the organization’s emergency team based in Amman, Jordan. In addition, World Vision already has sent supplies from its emergency warehouses in Italy and Germany. “One of the best ways we can prepare for an emergency is to have supplies in the right places at the right times,” said Jules-Lynn Frost, World Vision’s director of emergency preparedness. “These supplies will meet some of the most basic needs people fleeing Iraq will have.” While World Vision is prepared to help some 100,000 refugees in Jordan and Syria, the organization hopes to use these supplies as well as additional resources to assist those in need within Iraq when conditions allow.
