World Vision Relief Supplies Leaving Denver for Iraq
Press Availability Planned for Tuesday Morning, April 15
DENVER – Three truckloads of relief supplies will leave Denver Tuesday for Iraq as part of World Vision’s response to humanitarian needs in the aftermath of war.
“Relief workers depend on a steady supply of food and other supplies; it’s often a matter of life-and-death for the people we help,” said veteran relief worker Rich Moseanko, who directs operations of a warehouse for essential disaster relief items for the Christian humanitarian organization, World Vision. The agency began transporting goods to the region in February.
Tuesday’s shipment includes a truckload of VitaMeal, nutrient-dense meals designed to meet the needs of malnourished children. (Concentrated mix of rice and lentils). Each 5 pound, 3 ounce bag can feed 30 children. Provo-based, Nu Skin Enterprises and its distributors donated enough of the product to serve more than 240,000 meals. “More than half a million Iraqi children are malnourished,” said Moseanko. “This food will help thousands of them to grow and thrive.”
The other trucks carry blankets, pots and utensils and hygiene items. The shipment will leave Denver by truck to the Port of Houston, from which it will be shipped to Al Aqabah, Jordan, then trucked to Amman. World Vision will work in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.
