| British journalist Nigel Marsh, 35, is World Vision's East Africa Communications Manager. Based in Nairobi, Mr. Marsh oversees coverage of World Vision's programs in Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi. | *** |  |
Born in Nottingham, Mr. Marsh trained as a journalist in the United Kingdom. From 1984 to 1990, he served as a senior district reporter and sub-editor with the Western Gazette Co. Ltd., running a district office for two Somerset papers. In late 1990, he moved to Uganda with Youth With a Mission. There is established a holistic community response to AIDS, trained Ugandan leaders in AIDS counseling and church ministries, and oversaw communications. In 1995, he returned to the UK, where he served as a senior reporter with South West Counties Newspapers.
Joining World Vision in 1995, Mr. Marsh was communications officer for World Vision Rwanda, covering the agency's work with child-headed households and other efforts. He also served as security officer and, on several occasions, as acting national director. While in Rwanda, Mr. Marsh worked with UNICEF (the U.N. Children's Fund) on an extensive report on unaccompanied children.
Mr. Marsh moved to Nairobi with his wife and young son in 1998 to serve as East Africa Regional Communications Manager.
