Map of IraqIn a prime-time news conference prior to the war in Iraq, President George W. Bush shared the role of faith and prayer in his life, especially in these troubled times: "My faith sustains me, because I pray daily. I pray for guidance and wisdom and strength."

Our faith demands that we pray for our leaders, as well as their enemies. Caught in the middle are 26 million Iraqi civilians -- half of them children -- who already are suffering. They are bound to suffer more during and immediately after a war.

Mr. Bush pledged, "America also accepts our responsibility to protect innocent lives in every way possible," and promised the U.S. would provide food, medicine and help establishing a "just government." He also offered his prayers for the safety of innocent Iraqi civilians in the event of war.

World Vision has a deep concern for Iraq's people, especially children who have known little but war and privation. Please join us in prayer for their safety and for a better future.
