January 1992 - While millions watch the Superbowl, men, women and children in the Somali capital of Mogadishu are trapped in an anarchic civil war. Social order is disintegrating. World Vision shoots footage which news agencies show around the world of the wounded brought to makeshift hospitals by every conceivable conveyance and the dead buried to a backdrop of rumbling artillery.

August 1992 - The horror of famine and social chaos in Somolia is now grabbing the world's attention. World Vision footage of children battling over scraps of food helps raise the alarm. A World Vision medical and relief team rescue both the victims of hunger and of senseless violence on he road between Mogadissgu and Baidoa, which becomes known as the city of death.

January 1993 - Already in some parts of the country relief is transitioning to reconstruction. Villagers return to Rowlo in a truck convoy just months after fleeing the community due to clan violence. Ag Paks are distributed with food, seeds, tools, blankets and other essentials. Men are planting. Children are in school. There is hope in a ravaged land.
