Africans Visit U.S. to Raise Awareness about International AIDS Epidemic A year after President Bush announced his Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief during the State of the Union address, the pandemic continues to infect and affect tens of millions of people worldwide.Annie Kumwenda and Assan Golowa, World Vision program managers in Malawi, are visiting the United States to share how AIDS has affected children and families in the communities they serve. “AIDS wreaks havoc on development in our communities,” said Annie Kumwenda, a World Vision program manager in southern Malawi. “Farming is replaced by funeral attendance. One in every 12 people in our community is a child who has been orphaned by the disease.” In Malawi, World Vision integrates AIDS education with its education, water, sanitation and food projects. | |||||||||
