Worldview Update

More than 800,000 people in Bangladesh and east India were stranded or displaced this week as heavy monsoon rains flooded villages, killing at least 15.

Three died in a mudslide and three more drowned when their boat capsized. In addition, nine children were swept to their deaths in the deluge. Other concerns include water-borne illnesses, which have already infected at least eight people.

As monsoon season is just getting underway, weather experts predict that heavy rains will continue for weeks. World Vision is conducting a relief response in Bangladesh, which includes distributing rice, legumes, salt, molasses, biscuits, oral rehydration salts, water purifying tablets, candles, matches, plastic sheeting, water containers and clothing to more than 52,000 people.
