Frustrated, relief agencies continue to stand at the borders of Iraq as violence and insecurity within the country keep them from entering.

World Vision has planned to distribute food and relief supplies including clothes, blankets and hygiene kits.

The northern governate of Ninevah is home to 2.5 million people, including both Shi’ite and Sunni Arabs as well as Kurds and Turks, all of whom are vying for power now that Iraqi military forces have abandoned the area. Violence between these groups reportedly prompted U.S. Marines to fire into a crowd of protestors Wednesday, April 16, spawning two days of rioting within Nineveh’s capital city of Mosul.
