More Than 10,000 Participate in Kenya’s First International Women’s AIDS Run More than 10,000 women gathered at Uhuru Park in Nairobi, Kenya September 20 for the First International Women’s AIDS Run. Grandmothers, mothers, daughters, professionals, nuns, housewives and government ministers of varying races and faiths completed the 10-kilometer run/walk to express their solidarity and dedication to fight to spread of AIDS in Kenya.The run was lead by the Kenyan First Lady, Lucy Kibaki, and was endorsed by government ministers including President Mwai Kibaki, who challenged men who watched the race. “You are required to make up your minds today not to spread AIDS,” said Kibaki. “If you do not make up your mind today, you are not a real man.” World Vision provided some $60,000 to fund the event and recruited more than 3,000 participants. | |||||||||
