Who are the people?
Thousands of years of history, heritage, and discord influence the lives of the diverse peoples who live in this area. Due to age-old differences that persist in modern times, conflict remains a daily reality.
The needs among people who struggle with poverty are the same here, however. Families are often large and lack basic necessities. Many residents work in public service or in manufacturing plants. However, the effects of war and population movement have taken a toll on the economy, making it difficult to find employment.
In a region filled with political and social tension, World Vision’s goal is to create an environment where peace can exist and children can thrive. Experience has shown that unless people are able to earn a living, provide for their families, have access to safe and adequate water, and grow crops on their land, a sustainable peace will be very difficult to attain.
To accomplish our goals, World Vision works with churches and local communities to create a more secure future for children and their families and to advocate for peace.
As a sponsor, you will provide lasting hope by demonstrating the love of God to a child who desperately needs assistance.

What is it like to live there?
Areas of Israel (occupied East Jerusalem, West Bank, and the Gaza Strip), extend 260 miles from the border with Lebanon and Syria in the Golan Heights to Eilat. The region reaches inland 60 miles from the Mediterranean to the Rift Valley. The western area, known as the Negev, is mostly desert. There are a variety of people groups, among whom Hebrew, Arabic, and English are the primary languages. Jerusalem is the most crowded of Israel’s major urban centers and is the country’s second poorest city.
In 1948, the Arab-Israeli conflict and the subsequent establishment of the State of Israel resulted in the displacement of two-thirds of the Palestinian people. Following the June 1967 war, Israel took possession of land formerly held by Jordan and Egypt. Since then, the continued conflict has resulted in the expropriation of lands, loss of water resources, home demolitions, construction of disputed settlements and bypass roads, and closures of the West Bank and Gaza. In all of its various manifestations, the conflict has impeded efforts to improve the standard of living for children.
Child sponsorship is helping to meet physical and spiritual needs and to provide parents with skills and resources for achieving a better quality of life for their families. God’s divine intervention and sponsors’ commitment are providing many children with the hope of a better future.
