| In Spain there is a big need for farm workers but the pay is lousy. So Spain does what the U.S. does -- it imports its farm workers. Daniela Gerson reports that 5,000 women from Morocco spent three months this year picking strawberries in Spain. To get them to return home after harvest season, the government instituted a new guest worker program. It promised the women a job next season if they returned home this year. Farmers added another criteria -- they must have children back in Morocco. A mother’s love for her child is what sends 90% of the women home after the harvest. |
