| Adopting children is frowned upon in South Korea. For years, it was western families who adopted most Korean orphans. But last year, that began to change. A non-profit organization now works to end the stigma against orphans that they are somehow tainted by alcoholism, disease, or mental problems. The government also now provides some financial incentives for adopting children. As a result, for the first time in years, 60% of adoptions last year were by Korean families. Jason Strother reports. |
