Nuns Vow of Poverty
Listen to the:
There are places in the world where money really doesn’t matter that much. One of them is the Convent of the Franciscan Sisters of Mary in Montreal. Several retired or semi-retired nuns live at the convent after years of helping the poor in China, Malaysia, or Myanmar. The sisters’ vow of poverty in this order means living in solidarity with the poor -- living like the poor. The sisters know it will take more than just personal sacrifice to make a real difference in the world. But they believe in the words of their founder, St. Francis: “start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” Judith Ritter reports.
