Nomad Women Won't Sing
Listen to the:
Iran has a large nomadic population. Twice a year these wanderers break camp and move their flocks of sheep to seasonal grazing lands. Reporter Will Everett was in the city of Shiraz during the spring migration, where he met with a group of Bactiari women. To get them to open up and talk, he asked them to sing him a song. That usually works with children. “We didn’t go to school; we didn’t learn any songs,” replied one of the women. But they offered a poem and prayers for Everett anyway.
