The Rickshaw Project
Listen to the:
Aceh Province continues to recover from a devastating tsunami that swept across Southeast Asia two and a half years ago killing more than 230,000 people. The 250 motorized rickshaw drivers who survived the storm have pooled their resources to make sure everyone benefits. They received 37 new rickshaws from a U.N. aid agency. The drivers rotate use of the vehicles. And each driver donates $1 of their day’s earnings to buy new vehicles for them all. That’s a hefty sum because the drivers only make about $3 a day. Prue Clarke reports.
